A material or combination of chemicals used to produce thrust and move a rocket or spacecraft across space is called a rocket propellant. Typically, a rocket propellant is made up of two chemicals, a fuel, and an oxidizer, which are combined in a specified ratio and fired to provide the required thrust. The oxidizer is a substance that reacts with the fuel to produce more energy in the form of oxygen, whereas the fuel is a substance that can undergo combustion and release energy in the form of heat and gas. The controlled reaction between the fuel and oxidizer results in the release of a high-pressure gas from the rocket engine nozzle, which provides a forward push.
